Staff Systems Engineer

Position Type: Full Time

Salary Range: In compliance with Colorado's Equal Pay for Equal Work Act, the salary range for this role is $115,378 - $170,280. Final compensation for this role will be determined by various factors such as a candidate's relevant work experience, skills, certifications, and geographic location.

Location: Colorado Springs, Colorado. This is not a remote position.

Additional Compensation: This position is eligible for an end-of-year bonus.

Position Description:

We are looking for a Staff Systems Engineer to join our rapidly growing engineering team. As a Staff Systems Engineer at Bluestaq, you are an experienced professional with hands-on technical and domain expertise. The ideal candidate is a motivated systems engineer with a strong understanding of core engineering concepts and who is focused on growing as an engineer. In a Systems Engineering position at Bluestaq, you will collaborate closely with key stakeholders and system users to understand challenges and pain points so they can be addressed to increase system performance and organizational effectiveness.

Other job duties include:

  • Communicating the scope and state of work, identifying issues, and anticipating roadblocks.
  • Translating customer requirements into actionable items.
  • Managing and taking ownership of assigned work.
  • Defining iterations and stories for development efforts.
  • Prioritizing and scheduling development efforts based on project roadmaps.
  • Providing support to customer and company programmatic and development planning efforts.
  • Distributing tasking to matrixed development teams across multiple efforts.
  • Providing support to Program Managers during weekly status tag-ups with customers.
  • Contributing to the Program Manager's vision, roadmap, etc.
  • Working directly with Project Development Lead and Scrum Master to build the right thing the right way according to customer specifications and project timelines.
  • Engaging with all stakeholders to keep them informed regarding project status and timelines.
  • Supporting design and architecture studies for customers.
  • Researching cutting-edge technology to enhance software product features, reliability, and performance.
  • Supporting architecture trade studies and technology evaluations.
  • Documenting work products in briefings and/or technical reports to customers and teammates.
  • Collaborating with cross-domain teams in research.
  • Proactively and thoughtfully seeks clarification and asks questions when needed.
  • Taking responsibility for personal development.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Previous direct government coordination experience preferred.
  • Operational domain knowledge in Space, Air, Intelligence, and other relevant domains required.
  • Hands-on experience with Atlassian Tool Suite such as Confluence and Jira.
  • Knowledge of Scrum/Agile development framework and methodologies.
  • Capable of delivering on multiple competing priorities within a team-centric environment.
  • Provides stakeholder management, engagement, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Possess a growth mindset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Independently prioritizes and escalates unforeseen issues.
  • Displays a strong sense of ownership for projects.

Required Education: 8+ years of systems engineering experience with a Bachelor of Science degree OR Associate degree with 2 additional years of experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree OR a High School Diploma with 4 additional years of experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted in lieu of a degree.

Clearance Requirement: This position requires the ability to obtain a TS/SCI Clearance. To be eligible for a clearance, US Citizenship is required, and an employee must agree to participate in a background screen and credit check.

Relocation: This position does not offer relocation. Candidates must live in the immediate area or relocate at their own expense.
